UNLUCKY WEEKEND AT IMOLA

Oct 6, 2020 | Porsche Carrera Cup 2020

IMOLA – The third stage of the Porsche Carrera Cup saw Aldo Festante finish Race 1 in the thirteenth position and Race 2 in the eighth position. Once again, a contact with another driver heavily influenced the progress of Race 1, undermining the good result of the weekend.

The third round of the Porsche Carrera Cup was held in Imola from 29 to 30 August, on the well-known Autodromo Enzo and Dino Ferrari circuit. If, on one hand, the excellent results achieved so far by Festante allowed him to visibly improve his skills as a pilot, on the other hand, changing the championship suddenly brings with it various pitfalls and difficulties linked to the different ways in which competitions are held. Furthermore, Imola is a complex track on which the young driver has never raced in a covered wheel competition.
Despite this, Festante started the race weekend with positive qualifyings that led him to think for equally positive race performances. However, bad luck made itself felt immediately and in Race 1 a contact in a turn with another driver made Aldo spin on himself, who, however, still managed to finish the competition in the thirteenth position. Race 2, on the other hand, had a better outcome, seeing the Capua native driver closing the weekend with a good performance finished in the eighth position.
The weekend left a sour taste because of the bad luck that mined a promising round of the championship. Festante didn’t give up yet, in fact, he is already working with the team to erase any source of problems in view of Vallelunga, where he will battle the other pilots to climb the podium again.

“Racing at Imola without having ever tested a GT around it and not having been there for three years was a big challenge. However, the qualifying sessions showed we could be fast straight away, though the crash in race one ruined what could have been a valuable weekend, but that’s part of the game. We still learned a lot and worked with consistency and meticulousness, we’ll try to avenge ourselves in the best way in Vallelunga.”
