The Italian-Canadian driver finished 12th at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya after a technically challenging weekend, but one that provided valuable indications for the upcoming rounds.
Barcelona (ESP), June 14th, 2026 – Aldo Festante secured his first points of the 2026 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season by finishing 12th in the second round of the championship at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
The Italian-Canadian driver, at the wheel of the #28 Porsche 911 Cup (992.2) run by Target Competition, faced a particularly demanding weekend on one of the most challenging circuits in terms of tyre management. Despite the difficulties, he was able to gather positive data and turn the work completed throughout the event into his first points finish of the season.
After an encouraging free practice session, during which the team collected useful information for the remainder of the weekend, qualifying did not allow Festante to fully capitalise on the pace shown earlier. He ended the session in 18th position with a best lap of 1:43.298, hindered by the inability to maximise his second flying run and by difficulties in maintaining the tyres within their optimum performance window.
In the race, the Italian-Canadian adopted an aggressive approach from the start, gaining several positions on the opening lap. An early Safety Car period interrupted his progress and complicated the race strategy. Following the restart, Festante remained in contention with the group ahead, showing competitive pace and gradually closing the gap to the cars in front. Thanks to a strong second half of the race and several penalties handed to rival competitors, the Target Competition driver climbed to 12th position at the finish, securing his first points of the season.
Aldo Festante:
“We knew Barcelona would be a challenging weekend and, in the end, I think we achieved the maximum possible in the conditions we faced. It’s a shame about qualifying because our potential was better than the position we started from, but in the race we reacted well and put together a positive recovery drive. Scoring our first points of the season is important and gives us confidence heading into Austria, where we want to keep improving and take another step forward.”
Festante will return to action next weekend at Monza for the third round of the 2026 Porsche Carrera Cup Italia.
