FESTANTE REACHES THE FIFTH POSITION AT MUGELLO

SCARPERIA E SAN PIERO – The last race of the Porsche Carrera Cup saw Aldo Festante competing among the top five pilots in Race 2, following seven positions conquered.

The last heat of the Porsche Carrera Cup was held from 22 to 23 October at the Mugello Circuit.
It has been a particularly hard-fought weekend that required the intervention of several safety cars during the races. The Tuscan heat began with qualifying that did not satisfy the driver from Capua relegated to an unrewarding fourteenth position.
After the traffic lights went out Festante started from the seventh row with every intention of recovering positions in the race.
The competition was tough with no holds barred; in fact, after a few minutes, a contact between two pilots compromised the chances of a better recovery, allowing Aldo to gain only two positions under the checkered flag.
In Race 2 the driver from Capua was able to give a performance of much greater depth. Starting in the sixth row Aldo saw the interruption of the race and the exposure of the red flag due to contact between several pilots, fortunately without consequences, which required the intervention on the track of the stewards, who were called to remove the crashed cars.
The pilots then resumed the race starting behind the safety car. Aldo Festante, determined to improve the performance of Race 1, launched himself in a great comeback with fast laps.
The young Capua native pilot conquered position after position until, in an attempt to overtake Jorge Lorenzo, the two pilots came into contact with the Spaniard ending up in the gravel.
The race was then interrupted again by the safety car entering the track, made necessary by the dangerous position in which Lorenzo found himself. Aldo, however, will manage to close the race in fifth place until the communication from the race management would judge him responsible for the contact with Lorenzo, thus relegating him to twentieth place.
It remains a sour taste for a weekend that has gradually grown and could have culminated in a good fifth place.

“It was the last weekend and we worked very hard. It did not start in the best way with qualifying not in line with our expectations, but during the two races, we were competitive. Unfortunately, the top 5 on Sunday was removed from us by the race judges, with much disappointment. We just have to focus on 2023.”
